In The Box 5 months, 1 week ago英国理论物理学家 Peter Higgs 于 4 月 8 日去世，享年 94 岁。他在 2013 年因在希格斯玻色子上的研究工作而获得了诺贝尔奖。希格斯在爱丁堡大学期间首先对质量研究感兴趣，并逐渐发展出希格斯场理论。因为希格斯场遍布于宇宙中，某些带质量的基本粒子与希格斯场相互作用而获得其质量，而相互作用的副产品为希格斯玻色子。 他在 1964 年发表了相关论文，2012 年欧洲粒子物理研究所宣布大强子对撞机实验发现了希格斯玻色子。希格斯的大部分职业生涯都在爱丁堡大学度过，爱丁堡大学于 2012 年以他的名字成立了希格斯理论物理中心。
